Stellenwert der skrotalen Sonographie in der Diagnostik intraskrotaler Tumoren

Abstract

Scrotal sonography is a valuable supplement to clinical methods for evaluating scrotal contents since it is capable of discriminating paratesticular and testicular masses in almost all cases. Because of its sensitivity it is possible to detect even tiny nonpalpable tumors. This is important for early detection of tumors in persons at high risk and in the identification of occult testicular neoplasms. In contrast to the high sensitivity of scrotal ultrasound examination, there is only low specificity in the sonographic images; i. e., there is a sonographic image in almost any pathologic condition but the image is nonspecific and can only be interpreted correctly in connection with the case history and clinical findings.

Zusammenfassung

Die skrotale Sonographie ist eine wichtige Ergänzung der klinischen Untersuchungsmethoden, denn sie ermöglicht in nahezu allen Fällen eine Differenzierung der testikulären und paratestikulären Strukturen. Aufgrund der hohen Sensitivität können auch kleine, nicht palpable Tumoren erkannt werden. Dies ist von Bedeutung für die Frühdiagnose bei Risikopatienten und bei okkulten Hodentumoren. Wegen der Unspezifität der Befunde sind jedoch entzündliche und tumoröse Veränderungen nicht immer von einander zu trennen.
