Zusammenfassung
Freud hoffte, daß die von ihm beschriebenen psychischen Prozesse durch Fortschritte der Physiologie und Neurologie eines Tages ein somatisches Korrelat erfahren würden. Im weiteren Verlauf ihrer Entwicklung gab die Psychoanalyse diesen Anspruch jedoch auf. So haben es sich Bereiche der Physiologie, der Neurobiologie und anderer Verhaltenswissenchaften zur Aufgabe gemacht, wenn auch aus anderer Perspektive, die komplexen Interaktionen zwischen psychischen und somatischen Faktoren zu untersuchen. Wenn auch die gewonnenen Erkenntnisse bis zum heutigen Tag bruchstückhaft und isoliert erscheinen mögen, so liegen doch einige interessante und bedeutende Ergebnisse vor.
