Abstract

Being convinced of the harm caused by excessive and repetitive doses of symptomatic medication, if only in terms of the development of headaches, we have in recent years sought to develop a weaning technique by which we have monitored a large number of patients over long periods (Henry et al. 1985). Such prolonged follow-up before, during, and after weaning has enabled us to investigate beyond simple symptoms and more deeply than superficial monomorphism in trying to understand the determinant mechanisms underlying drug dependence.
