Abstract
In today’s challenging industrial climate, the search for efficiency in production cost, quality, flexibility, and due dates compels us to design, implement and operate manufacturing systems in which increasingly sophisticated techniques are involved.
Guy Doumeingts is Professor in the field of CIM (Computer Integrated Manufacturing) at Bordeaux Institute of Technology, France. He obtained a Ph.D. in 1964 and a higher doctoral thesis in 1984 at the University of Bordeaux. His research topics deal with the GRAI method, a design method for CIM and with techniques to control a manufacturing unit. He is presently Deputy Director at the GRAI Laboratory of the University of Bordeaux (1). He has managed over 20 industrial research contracts and has published over 80 papers in the field of CIM. Professor Doumeingts is a member of IFIP TC 5 and WG 5.7.
