Abstract

ELDAR (Electrolyte Data Regensburg) reflects the actual state of knowledge on electrolyte solutions in three parts: fact knowledge is represented in a relational data model, algorithmic knowledge is represented in normalized modules and managed by a method bank, and heuristic knowledge is represented in Horn-clauses. ELDAR, a user-friendly knowledge based system, is implemented on a microcomputer network. ELDAR produces property profiles of electrolyte solutions in a transparent manner from the stored data for the use in fundamental research and chemical engineering.
