Zusammenfassung

As a specialist in voice and speech pathology I am new to a conference on sports medicine. Let me therefore explain how I became involved. I started my career in medicine at the Utrecht Institute of Human Physiology and received some training in aviation medicine during military service. Issues of fitness and adaptation in adverse environments had my interest. Later I specialized in communication disorders and became a consultant for voice, speech and language problems. This brought me in contact with the Voice Foundation and with Arts Medicine. You will understand that there are similarities between care for the top performers on the stage and those in the stadium.
