Summary
The male infectious urethritis is the most frequent sexually transmitted disease. The common etiologic agents are N. gonorrhoeae, C. trachomatis and U. urealyticum, while T. vaginalis, herpesvirus hominis, C. albicans and enterobacteria are seldom found. The clinical appearance is not characteristic for any of the microorganisms, but these have to be isolated by different and specific techniques. Treatment with tetracycline is often successful, as the three common bacteria species are sensitive against this agent. The prognosis is good, but besides a high rate of spontaneous cure ascendent infections of the prostate gland and other male adnexe occur.
