Abstract

Benzeneseleninic anhydride (BSA) and in some cases benzeneseleninic acid (which readily produces the anhydride) proved to be mild reagents able to oxidize in neutral or basic media pyrocatechols (1,2-dihydroxybenzenes) to orthoquinones [279] (Scheme 105) and hydroquinones to p-quinones [279] (Scheme 106).
