A Transformable Mutant of Azosprillum Brasilense ATCC 29710

  • Conference paper
Azospirillum IV

Summary

Azospirilla are normally not transformable. During our investigations a mutant of A. brasilense ATCC 29710 was isolated, which was transformable with plasmid-DNA (e.g. pSUP106 and pRK290). The mutant also was a better recipient during plasmid-conjugation as compared to the wild type. In consequence the transpositionrate of Tn5 delivered on pSUP 2021 to cells of this mutant was increased as well. Evidence that this mutant is in fact a descendent of strain A. brasilense 29710 was achieved by DNA-hybridization and by analysis of its indigenous plasmid pattern.
