Surgery of the Skull Base

Abstract

The surgical anatomy of the facial nerve is conveniently discussed in terms of four major segments (Draf 1980). From the center to the periphery, these are:

  1. 1)

    The cerebellopontine segment.

  2. 2)

The internal auditory canal (meatal) segment.

  3. 3)

    The fallopian canal segment.

  4. 4)

    The extratemporal segment.
