Abstract
A new image preprocessing system is presented for contour extraction of objects corrupted with shadows and reflections. The system is adapted to the objects to be identified and to the shadows and reflections on the surface of the objects. The adaption process is performed in a training phase. The structure of the system is completely parallel. A simplified classification of the objects is also enabled. Some simulation results of numbers embossed in sheet metal are presented.
