Abstract

The anatomy of the lymphatic system is described on p. 32.Primary lymphedema of the lower extremity is characterized by reduction of the epifascial lymph collectors, especially of the ventromedial bundle. The cause of this hypoplasia has not been explained completely. Many things point to malformation. Primary lymphedema of the arm is much rarer than that of the leg and therefore less precisely characterized by lymphangiogram.
