Zusammenfassung

Zahlreiche Befunde weisen darauf hin, daß es sich beim Diabetes mellitus — beim Typ I wie beim Typ II — um ein vielgestaltiges syndromatisches Krankheitsbild handelt. In gleicher Weise scheint auch ein ganzes Bündel unterschiedlicher psychosozialer Faktoren für das Krankheitsgeschehen von Bedeutung. Dieses ist offensichtlich so komplex, daß die kritische Sichtung der vorliegenden Untersuchungsergebnisse keine prospektiv gesicherten Befunde von überindividueller Bedeutung belegen kann. Im täglichen ärztlichen Umgang mit Zuckerkranken hingegen scheint die Bedeutung solcher Faktoren für den Veriauf der Krankheit beim einzelnen Patienten offensichtlich. Jeder Hausarzt weiß aufgrund langjähriger Erfahrung oft recht genau, worin die „kritischen Situationen“ in Familie und Beruf usw. für die von ihm betreuten Zuckerkranken bestehen, also wann er mit Entgleisungen des Stoffwechsels bzw. „Revolten“ gegen das Behandlungsregime zu rechnen hat.
