Zusammenfassung
Die moderne biologisch orientierte Depressionsforschung gibt Hinweise für einen Mangel an biogenen Aminen und anderen Transmitiera an Synapsen des zentralen Nervensystems. Dieses Neurotransmitterdefizit wird primär mit den Verlustsymptomen der Depressionsphase korreliert, während für die manische Phase eine erhöhte Freisetzung von Neurotransmittern mit verstärkter postsynaptischer Stimulierung angenommen wird. Diesem prinzipiellen Konzept einer biochemischen Pathogenese der „Depression“ liegen verschiedene Hypothesen zugrunde.
