Zusammenfassung
Seit der Formulierung der Katecholaminhypothese (Rosenblatt et al. 1959; Schildkraut 1965) und der Aufklärung des Abbauwegs der Katecholamine (Axelrod 1971) wurde der Rolle des Noradrenalins bei affektiven Psychosen vermehrt Beachtung geschenkt. Die meisten Untersuchungen überprüften die MHPG-Ausscheidung bei Depressionen, der weitaus geringere Teil der Arbeiten beschäftigte sich mit der Rolle des MHPG bei Manien.
