Zusammenfassung

Neben Schmerzen der Eingeweide sind Muskel- oder Gelenkschmerzen für Patienten der häufigste Grund, einen Arzt zu konsultieren. Demgegenüber tritt der Oberflächenschmerz (von Haut und Schleimhäuten) stark in den Hintergrund. Die Hauptmenge der bisher vorliegenden Ergebnisse der Schmerzforschung betrifft jedoch den Hautschmerz. Dies gilt besonders für experimentelle Untersuchungen, in denen Schmerzreize gesetzt und die Reaktionen auf diese Reize gemessen werden. Tiefe Gewebe wie Muskeln, Sehnen und Gelenke sind einer kontrollierten und reproduzierbaren Reizung schlechter zugänglich als die Epidermis, und daher sind in Untersuchungen über den Tiefenschmerz quantitativ auswertbare Ergebnisse schwieriger zu gewinnen.
