Zusammenfassung

Es gibt derzeit fünf voneinander unterscheidbare, sicher nachgewiesene Retrovirus-stämme des Menschen. HTLV I und HTLV II werden mit der Entstehung von Leukämien in Zusammenhang gebracht, wohingegen HIV-1 und HIV-2 zu erworbenen Immunschwächen (AIDS) führen können mit ihren mannigfaltigen klinischen Konsequenzen. HDTV ist eine neue Gruppe humaner Retroviren, die aus malignen Hodentumoren isoliert werden konnten.
