Summary
The most striking deficiencies of cellular immunity supporting mucocutaneous candidoses allover lifetime are briefly reported. In particular, the cellular and humoral immunity of old age is referred as far as it concerns predisposition to thrush and its serological diagnosis. Some clinical aspects of candidoses of both skin and mucous membranes are discussed since they can quite often be found in asylized elderly people. Various local factors predisposing to these infections are considered with particular reference to the hygienic conditions of old people’s homes. Guidelines for therapy of mucocutaneous candidoses in aged people are outlined.
