Zusammenfassung
Die Forderung nach der zumindest weitgehenden Funktionstüchtigkeit des Hörnerven als die Voraussetzung, um ein Cochlear Implant (CI) erfolgreich werden zu lassen, ist unabhängig von der Art der verwendeten Prothese. Die Überprüfung des auditiven Systems mit akustischen Reizen kann nur Auskunft darüber geben, ob tatsächlich eine Taubheit vorliegt. Weder konventionelle audiometrische Untersuchungen noch die ERA können die Frage beantworten nach der Lokalisation der Taubheit. Mit der elektrischen Reizung des Nerven dagegen kann die periphere und zentrale Hörbahn, zumindest qualitativ, in ihrer Funktion erfaßt werden, indem Höreindrücke erzielt werden oder nicht (Djourno u. Eyries 1957; Zöllner u. Keidel 1963). Quantitative Bestimmungen vorhandener noch zur Reizleitung fähiger Hörnervenfasern gibt es derzeit noch nicht — jedenfalls nicht im klinischen Routinebetrieb (Simmons et al. 1985); dies könnte vielleicht mit der Ableitung elektrisch evozierter Potentiale möglich werden.
