Abstract

The subject of this study are the psychogenic disorders. Our aim has been to research their true frequency today — in a German urban population — on the basis of a field survey of a representative sample of adults. Their rates of prevalence among the different age groups, sexes, and social classes will be investigated, as will their relation to the fortuitous situations, life events, personality structures, and forms of childhood development that elicit them. Furthermore, we intend to explore the courses of individual illnesses and the factors that influence them. Finally, we wish to achieve an estimate of the extent to which treatment/ help is sought and of the probable therapeutic need that actually exists.
