Abstract

The laser is a new instrument in the field of arthroscopic surgery. There are three kinds, CO2 laser, YAG laser and argon laser, which are applied in the medical field. In our previous study, the CO2 laser was shown to be effective for arthroscopic surgery, that is incinerating the meniscus, etc. It is not easy, however, to employ the CO2 laser in these circumstances. Since 1978, we have been developing and improving the CO2 laser fibre, the arthroscope and the automatic control instrument for intra-articular pressure, with the aid of Machida Co. Ltd. and Matsushita Co. Ltd. A CO2 laser fibre has been developed for clinical use.
