Abstract

The University Hospital of Southampton provides an accident service for a population of 500000. All patients in this series underwent surgery at the Lord Mayor Treloar Orthopaedic Hospital which acts as a regional referral centre for a population of 1. 5 million. The use of fascia lata for reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) was first described in 1917 by Hey Groves — a former surgeon at this hospital.
