Zusammenfassung
Die Chirurgie des Neugeborenen befaßt sich einerseits mit der Palliation oder der Korrektur der angeborenen Mißbildungen. Diese erfordern oft sehr eingreifende und risikoreiche Operationen. Andererseits gibt es auch einfache, kurzdauernde Eingriffe (wie z. B. die Operation von Leistenhernien), die häufig an „gesunden“ ehemaligen Frühgeborenen ausgeführt werden müssen, für welche die präoperative Nahrungskarenz, der Transport in den Operationsraum, die Exposition an eine kühle Umgebung, die Anästhesie und die postoperative Phase ein viel größeres Risiko darstellen als die Operation selbst.
