An Experimental Approach to the Study of the Functional Derangement which Follows Aging of the Brain and Dementia

Abstract

Four research approaches are presently used to study degenerative disorders of the brain and dementias:

  • the epidemiological approach

  • the analytical approach

  • the experimental approach

  • the pharmacological approach

The epidemiological approach is the only one uncommitted by a precise hypothesis and, as a fishing expedition, it might forward the knowledge about risk factors and pathogenesis (see prof. Amaducci, this symposium).
