Frequency Shifts of Carbonyl Stretching Bands Induced by Solvents
The effect of solute-solvent interactions on the carbonyl stretching band of Ethyl haloacetates: R-COOEt (R: FCH2, F2CH, F3C, CICH2, Cl2CH, CI3C), acetophenone, benzophenone and N,N aimethylformamide has been studied in non hydrogen donor solvents and hydroxylic solvents. The observed frequency shifts are correlated with Kamlet et al. π* and parameters. From these relationships the differences in the H-bond complexes between hydroxylic solvents and the two ketones and the amide studied can be stated.
