Zusammenfassung
Im Gegensatz zu früheren Annahmen scheint das gemeinsame Vorkommen von Diabetes mellitus (DM) und Eßstörungen nicht selten zu sein. Die Diagnose beider Störungen ist entscheidend für die Therapie und Prognose der betroffenen Patienten.
Trotz wesentlicher Unterschiede in Ätiologie und Pathogenese haben DM, Anorexia nervosa (AN) und Bulimia (B) eine Reihe ähnlicher Symptome. Möglicherweise kann sich bei den Erkrankungen ein ähnlicher Teufelskreis aus gestörtem Aminosäuremetabolismus, gestörter serotonerger Funktion im Gehirn, gestörter Nahrungswahl und affektiven Störungen aufbauen. Bei Patienten mit DM ergibt sich so die Möglichkeit einer “neuen” physiologischen Quelle der Noncompliance, während bisher vor allem Problemen der Kontrolle (externer) Stimuli und Defiziten in der Informationsvermittlung und -verarbeitung Aufmerksamkeit geschenkt wurde.
