Zusammenfassung
In den vergangenen 200 Jahren sind in der medizinischen Literatur durch Kliniker und Pathologen eine ganze Reihe von Fallbeschreibungen mitgeteilt worden, bei denen es sich mit einiger Wahrscheinlichkeit um das Syndrom handelt. Den Syndromcharakter hat aber eindeutig als erster der deutsche Pädiater Otto Ullrich 1930 erkannt [52]. Er charakterisierte das Krankheitsbild als einen Symptomenkomplex multipler Fehlbildungen frühembryonaler Genese und zog eine Parallele zum Mongolismus zu einer Zeit, als über die chromosomale Ursache von Mißbildungen noch nichts bekannt war. Es blieb allerdings das Verdienst des Internisten Henry H. Turner, durch die Veröffentlichung seiner 7 Fälle im Jahre 1938 das Krankheitsbild weltweit bekannt gemacht zu haben [51]. Er hat auch auf die endokrinen Ausfälle, die Wachstum und Entwicklung betreffen, aufmerksam gemacht und schon damals therapeutische Versuche mit Östrogen- und Wachstumshormonpräparaten unternommen. Mit Recht trägt deshalb heute das Syndrom die Namen dieser beiden Ärzte [35].
