Abstract

The ASMR for cancer of the pancreas in men was 3.2 in 1963 and 6.6 in 1982, while the respective figures for women were 2.5 and 4.4. The average annual increase in the mortality rate is 5.81% for men and 3.54% for women. The mortality rate increases with age, particularly after 50, and it reaches its highest value of about 50 per 100000 men and 42 per 100000 women (1982 figures). An increase in the mortality rate with calendar time can be seen for both sexes. The risk of dying from cancer of the pancreas increases with successive birth cohorts.
