Abstract

Because of changes in the ICD classification, we could only use data of the period after 1970 for this analysis. The ASMR for cancer of the gall bladder in men was 1.6 in 1970 and 1.7 in 1982, and 4.9 and 4.4, respectively, in women. The mortality rate in men remained at its previous level, while in women it decreased slightly. The mortality rate for cancer of the gall bladder in women increases after the age of 40 to reach its maximal value of about 50 deaths per 100000 women aged 75. In men, the rate also increases significantly with age, starting from the age of 55 and reaching a peak of 25 deaths per 100000 men aged about 80. There is no observable tendency in the time trend in the age groups of both sexes.
