Abstract

The ASMR for cancer of the prostate was 6.4 in 1963 and 8.4 in 1982. It showed a rising trend until the early 1970s but then remained unchanged for the next decade. The time trend for the individual age groups corresponds with this picture: it increased up to 1970–1972 and hovered around the same level afterwards. The cohort data have a similar pattern. The mortality/age curves show similar shapes for 1963 and 1982. The highest value, in 1982, was around the age of 80 with about 170 cases per 100000 which was only slightly higher than in 1963.
