Summary
Latent-Structure Models such as LISREL, PLS and EQS are of great importance in marketing research. However, substantial prior knowledge — concerning the theoretical model as well as the empirical data — is necessary to obtain reliable results. In many marketing research situations these restrictive assumptions are violated. The purpose of this article is to introduce general component analysis, which could be used in such situations. It covers principal component analysis, canonical correlation analysis and redundancy analysis. An illustrative example linking consumer behavior to personality variables is given, showing the advantage of this approach.
