Zusammenfassung
Eine wichtige Frage angesichts erheblicher sensorischer Verluste im Alter lautet, welche psychosozialen Auswirkungen mit schweren Einbußen der Sensorik wie Blindheit oder Taubheit verbunden sind und wie diesen — beispielsweise durch technische oder sonstige rehabilitative Anstrengungen — begegnet werden kann. So besteht hinsichtlich der Sehfähigkeit Übereinstimmung darin, daß dramatische Einbußen häufig zu Niedergeschlagenheit, Depression, Hilflosigkeit und Einschränkungen in den sog. Aktivitäten des täglichen Lebens und Freizeitaktivitäten führen, auch wenn beträchtliche interindividuelle Unterschiede zu verzeichnen sind (vgl. dazu Kapitel 8; 13, 66). Solche sehr schweren sensorischen Einbußen besitzen deshalb auch für Praktiker wie Augenärzte oder Hals-Nasen-Ohren-Ärzte eine hohe Interventionspriorität.
