Abstract

The natural history of atherosclerotic disease of the arteries of the leg is characterized by a relatively benign local clinical evolution. Even though the underlying atherosclerotic disease progresses with time, about three out of four men who present intermittent claudication will never require vascular reconstruction and less than 4% will require a major amputation (13).
