Efficacy and tolerance of recombinant tissue-type plasminogen activator in patients with thrombotic or embolic occlusions of leg-arteries

Abstract

Dotter et al. [1] first described local clot lysis by intra-arterial perfusion of low-dose streptokinase into the occluding thrombus. Low-dose treatment with streptokinase or urokinase in acute or chronic occlusion of arteries of the leg has now become well established [2], With the availability of recombinant tissue-type plasminogen activator (rt-PA), possible advantages of this new thrombolytic agent in the treatment of occlusions in the arteries of leg and pelvis must be established.
