Abstract

In the 30 years since Dotter’s and Judkin’s original publication [7] of percutaneous transluminal dilatation of narrowed or occluded arterial segments, there has been a tremendous increase in the number of patients treated using this technique [4]. The advantages of PTA include reduced morbidity and mortality as well as the financial benefits of reduced in-patient costs, allowing a greater number of patients to undergo this treatment [2]. But in the initial enthusiasm for a new method the mostly good clinical and technical results are reported, while minor or severe complications are often disregarded [3].
