Zusammenfassung

Verletzungen der A. carotis sind relativ selten. Wir haben zwischen scharfen und stumpfen Verletzungen zu unterscheiden, wobei letztere häufig zu spät diagnostiziert werden. Stumpfe Verletzungen können durch ein HWS-Schleudertrauma, durch Kompression oder Schlag entstehen. Scharfe Verletzungen werden nach Stich- oder Schußverletzung beobachtet; aber auch im Sinne einer iatrogenen Läsion, z. B. durch Ligatur oder tangentiale Läsion (im Rahmen der Tumorchirurgie oder nach Strumaresektionen etc.), treten sie auf.
