Zusammenfassung
Während die Indikation zur Karotisthrombendarteriektomie im Stadium II wohl heute weitgehend unbestritten ist, gibt es im asymptomatischen Stadium I eine Reihe wichtiger Überlegungen, welche durchaus zu verschiedenen Ergebnissen hinsichtlich der Stellung einer Operationsindikation führen können [17, 19]. Die entscheidende erste Frage muß hierbei lauten: Was heißt asymptomatische Karotisstenose, welche Patienten sind als asymptomatisch und welche als symptomatisch einzustufen (Tabelle 1).
