Zusammenfassung
Subjektiv wahrnehmbare und objektiv meßbare Veränderungen (Verschlechterun-gen) der Gedächtnisleistungen gehören zu den markantesten psychologischen Al-ternssymptomen (5, 24, 29). Im Gegensatz zu vielen populärwissenschaftliehen Debatten liegt die theoretisch wie praktisch interessante Problemstellung deshalb nicht darin, ob es solche alterstypischen Defizite überhaupt gibt (natürlich gibt es sie!), sondern ob sie unvermeidbar, unveränderbar und unbeeinflußbar sind. Baltes und Danish (2) sehen in dieser, während der 60er Jahre vollzogenen Rekonzeptualisierung des gerontologischen Forschungsprogramms die theoretische Grundlage für die enorme Zunahme von Trainings- und Interventionsprogrammen. Die Neuorientierung richtet sich vor allem gegen traditionelle Vorstellungen vom psychischen Altern als eines universellen, alle Individuen und Funktionen in ähnlicher Weise beeinflussenden Prozesses, von dem lange Zeit angenommen wurde, daß er zu einem bestimmten Zeitpunkt einsetzt, in ähnlieher Weise verläuft und unaufhaltsam fortschreitet.
