Residualvolumen und Vitalkapazität. Bei akuter Exazerbation des Asthma bronchiale erhöht sich das Residualvolumen beträchtlich aufgrund der in den peripheren Atemwegen festgehaltenen Luft (siehe Kapitel 5.5). Obwohl die totale Lungenkapazität ebenso zum Anstieg tendiert, fällt die Vitalkapazität unausweichlich ab (Abb. 148, 149). Je schwerer der Asthmaanfall ist, um so mehr erreicht die anflutende Luft den maximalen Inspirationswert, und damit steigt die Gefahr, daß eine Apnoe auftritt.
