Zusammenfassung

Es darf heute als weitgehend gesichert gelten, daß mit Anstieg des Blutdrucks eine Abnahme der allgemeinen Lebenserwartung und eine Zunahme an kardiovaskulären Erkrankungen einhergeht. Besonders jüngere Männer im Alter unter 50 Jahren sind durch den Hochdruck gefährdet (4). Jenseits des 70. Lebensjahres scheint der Einfluß der Blutdruckhöhe auf die Lebenserwartung an Bedeutung zu verlieren. Es ist daher verständlich, wenn sich der Schwerpunkt auf die frühzeitige Blutdrucksenkung, vor allem bei jüngeren Männern, konzentriert. Zahlreiche, sehr wirksame blutdrucksenkende Medikamente sind inzwischen verfügbar und erlauben es, ohne wesentliche Beeinträchtigung des Allgemeinbefindens eine regelmäßige Medikamenteneinnahme beizubehalten.
