Summary
The external-type all-purpose cardiac pacemaker was designed to prevent fatal arrhythmias from occurring in highly susceptible individuals when they are in coronary or intensive care units and/or hospital environment. This pacemaker system consists of catheter, plate electrode, sense amplifier, microcomputers, and defibrillator controller. Once the transvenous catheter is inserted and positioned in the right ventricle, the all-purpose cardiac pacemaker is able to detect ventricular tachycardia, and to control it with burst pulse pacing. When bradyarrythmia occurs, demand pacing program works. This system can also function only as a demand pacemaker by programming. Ventricular fibrillation is diagnosed by recognizing the decrease of blood pressure. Hypotension continuing for more than 10 sec causes the pacemaker to trigger a pulse which turns-on the transvenous defibrillator.
