Abstract

Pyogenic liver abscess is uncommon but still causes significant mortality. In the United Kingdom and the United States the frequency varies from between 7 and 40 per 100,000 hospital admissions in series derived retrospectively from hospital notes 1 2 to around 0.6% of necropsies3 4.
