Abstract

Modeling of the lungs branching pattern has been a subject of the mathematical treatment by fractal geometry, including Mandelbrot (1983). The essence of calculating such forms is in the use of recursive algorithms. For the description of plant structure and development Lindenmayer (1968) introduced L-systems. The L-system is used to simulate the growth of structures by reproduction with the help of fractal templates (Rozenberg and Salomaa 1992; McCormick and Mulchandani 1994).
