Zusammenfassung

Als Burian in dieser Reihe 1983 über den aktuellen Stand der Cochlear-Implant-Forschung berichtete, standen noch andere Fragen im Mittelpunkt des Interesses (Burian 1983). Damals war die Forschung gerade soweit, erste Therapieversuche zuzulassen. Dies war ein enormer Fortschritt. Zwar wurde noch heftig gestritten, ob extra- oder intrakochleären Elektrodenimplantationen der Vorzug zu geben sei und ob analoge oder digitale Sprachverarbeitungsstrategien günstiger seien, jedoch waren sich alle Forscher darüber einig, daß die elektrische Stimulation des funktionstoten Innenohres möglich und somit auch die Entwicklung einer alltagstauglichen Hörprothese in greifbarer Nähe sei. Der Optimismus hat sich bestätigt.
