Abstract
This chapter reflects nearly 20 years of personal experience with the in vitro analysis of grafted small animals, experience that has involved close scientific cooperation between surgeons and experimental scientists. It deals especially with the practical aspects of small animal transplantation. One of its main aims is to achieve a better and deeper understanding of the need for interdisciplinary work, as is being practiced in many international groups with great success. Unfortunately, however, it is still lacking in others.
