Abstract
Several rat models have been used in the past to study in detail mainly chronic rejection in segmental aortic and small-vessel allografts. Although the histomorphological appearance of rejection differs depending on the type of organ transplanted, a common feature of the chronic rejection process is an obliterative arteriosclerosis. However, the molecular and cellular pathogenesis of these vascular alterations is not yet fully understood and thus has to be further analyzed independent of the type of organ transplanted.
