The X-Ray Microscopy Project at BESSY II

  • Chapter

Abstract

It is planned, to use an undulator at BESSY II as source for a transmission X-ray microscope (TXM) and a scanning transmission X-ray microscope (STXM). The undulator with a magnetic period of 41 mm (U41) will be installed in a low β - section and will allow to cover the water window wavelength region in the first harmonic. The characteristics of this undulator will be presented.

In addition, improved X-ray microscopes will be discussed. The different properties of the undulator radiation compared to the dipol radiation used at BESSY I will lead to a new design of the condenser optics. Possible arrangements of these optics will be given. An overview of the planned X-ray microscopy area at BESSY II and of the planned experiments will be shown.
