Zusammenfassung
Die Kehlkopfmaske hat sich seit Beginn dieses Jahrzehnts in der ganzen Welt (seit 1988 in England, seit 1990 in Deutschland, in den USA seit 1991) als Mittel zum Freihalten der Atemwege zur Narkose bewährt. Sie hält mittlerweile auch Einzug in die Notfallmedizin, und sie hat sich ihren Platz in den gängigen Algorithmen zur Freihaltung der Atemwege bei erschwerter Intubation erobert. Es ist deshalb an der Zeit, die Indikationen und Kontraindikationen zum Einsatz der Kehlkopfmaske zusammenzufassen.
