Summary
Partial coherence laserinterferometry (PCI) is a new non-invasive method for biometry. It allows the measurement of intraocular distances with unprecedented precision.
Subjects: Anterior chamber depth (ACD) and lens-capsule distance were measured in 104 Pseudophakic eyes with the following implants: Acrysof MA60BM, Phacoflex SI30 without and with capsular-tension ring, and Iogel. In an additional group of patients with capsular fibrosis, the ACD was measured before and after YAG capsulotomy.
Results: The precision of measurement of ACD in the Pseudophakic eye is approximately 4 µm. In the case of a positive lens-capsule distance, precision of measurement was 3 µm, with a mean distance 50 µm. YAG capsulotomy results in a posterior movement of the IOL.
Conclusion: PCI is a fast, non-contact technique of biometry. It allows measurement of the anterior segment in Pseudophakie eyes with unprecedented precision.
