Abstract
Gangliosides, characteristic surface components of all mammalian cells, are highly enriched in nervous tissues. Although there is some evidence for their involvement in physiological processes (Hakomori, 1981) the exact biological role of gangliosides as well as the regulation of their metabolism still remain obscure.
